Sex on Film

My model in this image, Matthew, is creating a parody of an image of Marilyn Monroe wearing a potato sac and high heels. Monroe was Hollywood’s blond bombshell in the 1950s, she posed in a potato sac in response to a critic who told her she was only pretty because of her clothing, showing that her looks are stunning regardless. While Monroe was always praised for her looks, she had a strong interest in everything going on behind the scenes with her photo shoots. She would ask about the film, how the images were processed, and the set; this was reflected in the image by including the equipment that was holding up the sequin background. I used Matthew for this to contrast Monroe’s image as a symbol of sex. The first photographer to take a picture of Monroe told her that she was “sex on film”.
